Black Bean Burger



1/4 cup onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

15 oz can low sodium black beans, rinsed & drained

1 cup bread crumbs

1/2 cup rolled oats

4 Tablespoons ketchup

2 tsp. cumin

2 tsp. oregano

1/2 cup water

non-stick cooking spray



In a pan, saute onion over medium-high heat until just starting to brown. Add a little water to prevent sticking/burning. Add garlic and saute for 1 minute.


Mash the beans and add sauteed vegetables and remaining ingredients. Press everything together and form 4 patties.


Spray skillet with non stick spray and brown burgers over medium heat until slightly browned on both sides (about 3 min. per side).


Serve on bed of lettuce, lettuce wrap or whole wheat buns.


NOTE: You can also make burger with raw diced onions and skip the garlic.
