Trying meat alternatives can be good for the environment and your health. Meat has been linked to heart disease, cancer, and obesity. Trying meat alternatives can also be an opportunity to try some new flavors and textures. If you want to watch me discuss, here's a link to my FB Live on meat substitutes.

Legumes - beans, lentils, and peas 
 Soy products - tofu, tempeh, textured vegetable protein
 Portobello Mushrooms 
Commercial Meat Substitutes - mimic taste and texture of meat; have to watch out for added fat and sodium. 

It may take some trial and error to find what you like!!

  • Impossible Burger (Burger King)

  • Beyond Burger/Sausage/ground (grocery stores and restaurants)

  • Field Roast Italian and Apple/Sage sausages

  • Lightlife - ground, "bacon", hotdogs

  • Benevolent Bacon (Whole Foods)

  • Gardine - various meat substitutes

  • Quorn - patties, grounds, chicken patties (look for milk and eggs free)
